Conceived in 2016, the goal of the “Shoot for Cystinosis” was to bring awareness of the plight of children suffering from this disease and to raise money for research, since most research money comes from private donations and fundraisers.
The inaugural event was on behalf of a 9 year old St. Catharine’s girl, the only known case in the Niagara Region, living with this rare disease. Since then she has grown into a lovely young lady who doesn’t want to be defined by her disease. We have renamed the event to the “Shoot for Cystinosis” to highlight the disease and help all the young children afflicted by this disease.
Cystinosis is a rare, incurable metabolic disease in which the amino acid cystine gets into the cells, but has no transporter out. Because of the defect in transportation, the cell crystallizes causing early cell death. It slowly destroys the organs in the body including the kidneys, liver, eyes, muscles and the brain. Cystinosis is a disease so rare that it affects only 2,000 children worldwide.
Will you join us and help us eradicate this horrible disease? 100% of all money raised donation goes directly to the Cystinosis Research Foundation who are committed to finding a cure.
The Shoot is open to all in the community (adults and children alike) and the majority of the people attending will be from the Niagara Region and the surrounding areas.
Please see the bullet list below on how you can help us make this event a success.
- I have attached an electronic copy of the event and if you are close to our area or know someone who is please pass along this information and especially to your members. Any donations are also greatly appreciated.
- We are looking for volunteers to help us on the firing line the day of the event. If anyone can help us please contact me, my contact information is at the bottom of this email. We are also looking for 22LR bolt action rifles with scopes to be used on the day of the event.
- Finally we have a number of great items for raffles including some non-restricted rifles, a Traeger smoker barbeque pellet grill and two firearm safety courses that have been donated for raffle. (All attached to the email) The rifles and the safety courses have a limited number of tickets (as indicated on the tickets themselves) and when the capacity is reached no more will be sold. If anyone is interested in any of these tickets they can email me at the contact email at the bottom of this email. They can then electronically money transfer me, I will fill out the tickets, take a picture of them and text it back to them so they are assured they are in the draw.
If anyone has any questions please feel free to reach out.
